Four-day Sangrai festival begins in Bandarban

The traditional Sangrai festival of the Marma community began in Bandarban. The festival will continue for four days.

Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing MP, the president of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Ministry Parliamentary Standing Committee, inaugurated the 4-day Sangrai Festival by blowing up balloons in Rajarmath on Saturday (April 13). Later he led the colorful Sangrai procession organized around the Sangrai festival.

People from 11 ethnic groups including Marma, Mru, Khumi, Chakma, Tanchangya, Tripura, and Lusai participated in the procession in their ethnic attire. They showcase their own heritage by performing various musical instruments and cultural expressions. At this time, the traditional dance of the Mru community drew widespread attention. The procession paraded through the city's main streets before concluding at the Minority Cultural Institute.

Among others, Bandarban Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shah Mujahid Uddin, Additional Police Superintendent Md Raihan Kazemi, Municipal Mayor Shamsul Islam, Director of Minorities Cultural Institute Mong Hnai Ching, Municipal Awami League President Amal Kanti Das, Festival Celebration Council President Pulupru, and General Secretary Ukyasing took part in the rally.
