Freedom fighter killed in clash between two groups in Lohagara
A freedom fighter was killed and 12 others were injured in a clash between two groups in Lohagara upazila of Narail.
The deceased, Akbar Sheikh, is the son of Mekret Sheikh of Lahuria Paschimpara and a retired army member.
The incident took place in Lahuria Paschimpara of the upazila on Monday afternoon. Sources said that there was a long-standing dispute between Monirul Jamaddar and Milton Jamaddar groups over establishing dominance in the area. Due to a scuffle between people from both sides over a trivial incident on Sunday, the two sides got into a clash with local weapons on Monday afternoon. At that time, Akbar Sheikh of Monirul group was hacked and beaten up by the people of the opponent Milton Jamaddar. Later, he died on the way to Mohammadpur Upazila Health Complex in Magura district.
Lohagara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ashiqur Rahman confirmed the death of the brave freedom fighter.
He said additional police have been deployed in the area. Necessary measures are being taken in this regard.
