Freedom fighters accuse Lalmonirhat DC of anti-liberation actions
The Liberation War Memorial Mancha mural near Shishu Park on BDR Road in Lalmonirhat town has been demolished after being previously covered on multiple occasions, including on the Independence Day.
Workers dismantled the mural from morning to afternoon on Sunday. It depicted key moments of the Liberation War, including the Pakistani army’s surrender, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s March 7 speech, the Mujibnagar government, and freedom fighters celebrating victory.
Freedom fighters allege that Deputy Commissioner (DC) HM Rakib Haider ordered the removal of the mural and accused him of holding anti-liberation views. Local journalists claim the DC had it covered earlier and later ordered its demolition, particularly targeting sections featuring Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
DC Rakib Haider denied involvement, stating he was unaware of who was responsible.
However, freedom fighter Azizul Haque Birpratik, president of the District Conscious Citizens' Committee, condemned the demolition and called for protests against the incident.
