Gano Forum has refuted the statement made by Interim Government Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus during his visit to Japan, which claimed that no party except one desires elections in December. The party labeled this assertion as inaccurate.

In a press release issued on Friday (May 30), Gano Forum urged the government to complete all necessary reforms and take concrete steps to hold free, fair, and credible elections by December.

The party criticized the chief adviser and other advisors for making unclear and confusing statements about the elections, which are causing divisions among active political parties.

Gano Forum leaders emphasized that establishing democracy, rule of law, and voting rights is essential to realize the benefits of the popular uprising. They blamed the government for failing to develop a clear reform roadmap and specific plans, warning against shifting this responsibility onto political parties.

The recent talks about the chief adviser’s resignation and selective government meetings with certain parties have deepened public frustration. Gano Forum condemned the government’s exclusion of them from the latest advisory meeting, interpreting it as an attempt to sow discord among political parties.

Leaders also noted that in the past nine months, the government has taken no effective action to restore law and order or stabilize public administration. Necessary reforms to ensure credible elections remain absent, eroding public support and increasing skepticism among political parties and citizens.

On the same day, Gano Forum’s President Council held a meeting at the party’s central office, chaired by SM Altaf Hossain. Attendees included Secretary Md. Mizanur Rahman and council members Subrata Chowdhury, Jaglul Haider Afric, Mezbahauddin, Moshtaq Ahmed, among others.

The council demanded the immediate announcement of a clear election timeline. Members also urged vigilance to protect the national unity formed during the July popular uprising, ensuring no forces undermine efforts to establish democracy and good governance.
