Gas supply may be low due to low pressure
Low pressure in the Bay of Bengal may lead to lower gas supply in various parts of the country due to reduced supply of LNG for inclement weather, says a Titus Gas press release on Friday (May 24).
Khalid Hossain, chief meteorologist of Bangladesh Weather Observation Team, said, “The low pressure created in the southwest Bay of Bengal area has turned into a strong low pressure and is approaching Bangladesh. It may move further north-eastwards and become Cyclone Remal. It is likely to become more concentrated and stronger. If the depression really turns into a cyclone, it is likely to wreak havoc in several southern districts of the country.”
He said the information available by reviewing its movement is that it may cross the coast of Bangladesh. It can cross the coast from anywhere in this range, from Odisha state in India to Sittwe in Myanmar. However, the highest risk may be from Satkhira to Chattogram coast.”
According to the information available so far, it will not develop into a very intense or super cyclone. Instead it can have a top speed of 85 to 135 kilometers per hour. Its peak strength may remain unchanged until it crosses the coastline.
