Gazette of martyrs in July uprising published
The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has officially published the gazette listing the names of martyrs from the July Uprising.
The gazette, dated Wednesday, January 15, was made public on Thursday, January 16.
The gazette, signed by Haridas Thakur, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, includes details such as medical case IDs, names, fathers' names, current addresses, and permanent addresses of the martyrs.
According to the official gazette, 834 individuals were martyred during the anti-discrimination movement in July-August 2024. Each name is listed alongside its corresponding medical case ID.
Additionally, the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs plans to establish a "Directorate of July Uprising" to compensate the martyrs and those injured in the uprising. Along with the 834 fatalities, approximately 15,000 students and civilians were injured.
This new department will primarily focus on preserving the memory of the uprising and providing compensation to the affected individuals.
Following the formation of the interim government after the ousting of the Awami League government, the Ministry of Health formed a committee on August 15 to compile a list of the deceased and injured. On December 21, the special cell of the interim government released the first draft of the list of "martyrs" and the injured. After verification, the first gazette has now been published to officially recognize the martyrs of the July Uprising.
