Gazipur cylinder explosion death toll reaches 5
Three more people who were critically burnt due to a gas cylinder explosion at Kaliakoir in Gazipur have succumbed to injury bringing the total death toll from the deadly blast to five.
They died on Saturday night and Sunday morning while undergoing treatment at the Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in the capital, said Kausar Ahmed, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Kaliakair.
The name of the child who died last night is Tayeba, daughter of Sajal Mia from Fulbaria in Mymensingh. The two who died this morning are Maidul Islam (25), son of Sabet Khan from Barakhola village at Shahjadpur upazila in Sirajganj and Ariful Islam (45), son of Abdur Razzak Biswas from Alaipur village at Bagha upazila in Rajshahi.
According to hospital sources, 80 percent of Tayeba's body was burnt. Among the remaining two, 95 percent of Maidul's body and 70 percent of Ariful's body were burnt in the fire.
In this regard, UNO Kausar Ahmed told the media that the family of the deceased child has been financially supported. All arrangements have been made by the administration to take the body to her village and bury it. Similarly, the families of the two deceased workers are also being assisted.
Earlier on Wednesday, an explosion occurred due to gas cylinder leakage at Shafiqul Islam Khan's house in Telirchala area of Kaliakoir, injuring 36 people. Of them, 32 are still undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
