Govt fixes price of dates

The government has fixed the price of dates for the first time. This information has been revealed in a notice issued by the Ministry of Commerce.

In a notice on Tuesday (March 12), the ministry fixed the price of low-grade dates at Tk 150 to Tk 165 per kilogramme (kg). Prices of Zahidi dates, the widely-consumed variety, would be Tk 170-Tk 180 a kg.

The traders have been ordered to sell dates following the notice.

According to the notification, signed by Fuara Khatun, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Ministry, the Ministry of Commerce has determined the quality-based rational price of dates per kg by analyzing the import price of different quality dates imported into the country, the imposed duties and taxes and other costs of the importer.
