The government has issued a gazette notification granting retrospective promotions to 764 officials who retired during the Awami League tenure. Half of their dues will be paid in the current fiscal year, while the remaining amount will be provided next year.

On Sunday (February 9), the Ministry of Public Administration issued separate orders announcing these retrospective promotions. According to the notification, 119 officials have been promoted to Secretary, 41 to Grade-1, 528 to Additional Secretary, 72 to Joint Secretary, and 4 to Deputy Secretary.

The gazette states that these officials will receive all financial benefits from the date of their retrospective promotion as per regulations. Fifty percent of their outstanding dues will be paid in the current financial year, and the remaining fifty percent will be given in the next fiscal year.

It also mentions that the concerned officials will be considered as serving in the last promoted position as Special Duty Officers (OSD) until they reach the retirement age of 57 or 59 years. They will be deemed to have officially retired from government service on their scheduled retirement date after completing their post-retirement leave (PRL) or preparatory retirement leave (LPR).

The officials will receive their pending salaries, allowances, and pensions as per regulations. Previous PRL or LPR orders issued for them have been canceled, and their post-retirement leave will be adjusted while determining their final salary.

The Deprivation Resolution Committee submitted a report to the Chief Advisor on December 10, recommending retrospective promotions and financial benefits for the 764 retired officials who were previously denied promotions during the Awami League government.
