Govt to appeal against HC order over school closure
The High Court has ordered the closure of classes in primary, secondary schools and madrasas until next Thursday (May 2) due to the ongoing severe heat wave.
Expressing anger over the order of the court, Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel has said that the government will move to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, seeking cancellation of the HC order.
Talking to reporters after attending a programme at Agargaon in the capital on Monday (April 29) afternoon, he said, “A kind of mentality is being created to close educational institutions. Why does the education ministry have to bring a court order on everything? We will go to the Appellate Division seeking cancellation of the High Court order.”
At this time, the minister also commented that everyone should fulfill the duties bestowed upon him constitutionally.
Earlier, lawyer Monir Uddin brought the attention of the High Court to the reports published in various newspapers on Monday (April 29) about the death of 18 people in different parts of the country due to the ongoing heatwave. He told the court that school and madrasa students are at grave risk attending their classes during the ongoing extreme heatwave.
Taking the issue into consideration, the High Court bench of Justice KM Kamrul Quader and Justice Khizir Hayat directed the education ministry to close schools and madrasas at the primary and secondary levels till next Thursday (May 2).
