Great danger signal ten in 9 districts including Payra, Mongla ports
In its most recent bulletin, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has advised the maritime ports of Payra and Mongla to maintain great danger signal number ten as Cyclone Remal, initially a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal, has intensified into a cyclonic storm and is forecasted to make landfall on Sunday night.
The Met Office asked to hoist danger signal 9 for Cox’s Bazar and Chattogram seaports.
Coastal districts including Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Jhalakathi, Barguna, Barishal, Bhola, Patuakhali, as well as adjacent island and char areas, will be subject to great danger signal number ten.
As of 6:00 am on Sunday, the cyclone's center was located approximately 400 kilometers southwest of Chattogram port, 300 kilometers southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 330 kilometers south of Mongla port, and 295 kilometers south of Payra port, as stated in the bulletin.
It may likely move northwards and intensify further.
The bulletin indicated that within a 54-kilometer radius of the deep depression center, the maximum sustained wind speed is approximately 64 kilometers per hour, escalating to 130 kilometers per hour during gusts or squalls.
