A gunfight erupted between the Indian and Pakistani armies along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday night (April 24), escalating tensions between the two nations after a recent gunmen attack in the region.

According to Indian military sources, Pakistani troops fired on several Indian posts along the LoC on Thursday night. In response, the Indian army also fired back.

Sources added that the firing involved small arms in some areas, but there were no reports of casualties.

Earlier, on April 22, gunmen attacked a meadow in the Pahalgam district of Kashmir, killing at least 26 people, mostly tourists. The Resistance Front, a group, claimed responsibility for the attack. This is considered the deadliest attack in Kashmir since the 2019 Pulwama attack.

On April 22, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a firm statement accusing Pakistan of being involved in the attack, while India’s Defense Minister Rajnath Singh vowed a "strong and clear response."

In response, Pakistan has threatened retaliatory actions, further escalating tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighboring countries.

Amidst this, both nations are moving towards imposing sanctions and counter-sanctions.
