The Haematology Society of Bangladesh observed World Blood Cancer Day 2025 with a lively event held at the National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital. Organized in partnership with the Haematology Department, the celebration began with a spirited rally.

The rally was inaugurated on Wednesday (28 May) by senior haematologist Professor Dr. Md. Jalilur Rahman and the Honorable Vice-Chancellor of Khulna Medical University, Professor Dr. Md. Mahbubur Rahman. It was led by the General Secretary of the Society, Dr. Md. Adnan Hasan Masud.

After the rally, the Society’s President Professor Dr. Amin Lutful Kabir, Science Secretary Dr. Md. Monirul Islam, Head of the Hematology Department Dr. A.K.M. Moinul Islam, Head of the Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Department Dr. Ferdousi Begum, and other distinguished hematologists delivered speeches. They emphasized the crucial role of early diagnosis, timely treatment, and public awareness in preventing blood cancer.

Following the speeches, a scientific seminar took place. Professor Dr. Md. Jalilur Rahman attended as the chief guest, while the special guests included Professor Dr. Md. Mahbubur Rahman, Vice-Chancellor of Khulna Medical University; Professor Dr. Rakib Uddin Ahmed, Head of the Radiation Oncology Department; and Dr. Md. Tawfiq Hasan Firoz, Project Director of the Comprehensive Cancer Hospital Project.

The Society’s General Secretary, Dr. Md. Adnan Hasan Masud, delivered the welcome speech at the seminar. Four hematologists presented their research papers, while the expert panel featured Professor Colonel (Retd.) Abdul Hai, Dr. Abu Zafar Md. Saleh, and Professor Dr. Tashmim Farhana Dipta.

During the seminar, speakers highlighted that world-class blood cancer treatment is now available in Bangladesh. They stressed the importance of early diagnosis and prompt consultation with a hematologist, emphasizing that timely treatment can be life-saving.
