Haider Akbar Khan given guard of honour at Shaheed Minar
Haider Akbar Khan Rono, a distinguished senior politician, renowned left-wing intellectual, and courageous freedom fighter of Bangladesh, was given Guard of Honour at the central Shaheed Minar in the capital at 11:30 am on Monday (May 13). Subsequently, his body remained at the Shaheed Minar for people to pay their respects.
The Janaza of Haider Akbar Rano took place at 1:30 pm at the Dhaka University Central Mosque. He will be laid to rest at the Banani graveyard.
Earlier, the advisor of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) passed away in a private hospital in the capital early Saturday. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed her condolences at his demise.
Born on August 31, 1942, in Calcutta, Bengal Presidency, British India (now Kolkata), Rono was a prolific writer who authored 25 books and numerous booklets. In recognition of his literary achievements, he was honored with the Bangla Academy Literary Award in 2021.
Haider Akbar Khan Rono, a Marxist theorist, served as the general secretary of the East Pakistan Students Union. He played a prominent role in organizing and leading the Liberation War in 1971.
