Haider Akbar Khan Rono passes away
Veteran politician Haider Akbar Khan Rono, an adviser to the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) central committee, passed away at a hospital in capital early Saturday. He was 82.
CPB central committee member Joly Talukder confirmed the matter.
Born on August 31, 1942, in Calcutta, Bengal Presidency, British India (now Kolkata), Rono was a prolific writer who authored 25 books and numerous booklets. In recognition of his literary achievements, he was honored with the Bangla Academy Literary Award in 2021..
Haider Akbar Khan Rono, a Marxist theorist, served as the general secretary of the East Pakistan Students Union. He played a prominent role in organizing and leading the Liberation War in 1971.
Haider Akbar Khan Rono left the Workers Party of Bangladesh due to ideological disparities and aligned himself with the CPB. He became a presidium member of CPB in 2012 before elevating to advisor.
