Hannan Sarkar resigns as Bangladesh's assistant selector
Hannan Sarkar has resigned from his position as the assistant selector of the Bangladesh national cricket team. Despite having a contract with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) until 2026, he decided to step down within a year.
The former Bangladesh cricketer officially submitted his resignation to the BCB on Saturday.
Although leaving his role as a selector, Sarkar will continue his involvement in cricket. He is set to transition into coaching, beginning with the upcoming Dhaka Premier League (DPL).
"I submitted my resignation yesterday and will remain in the role until the end of this month," Sarkar said. "Now, my focus is on coaching in the DPL. I am currently in discussions with a few teams, so let’s see how things unfold."
Explaining his decision, he added, "I made this choice considering my future. I believe coaching will not only benefit me but also contribute to Bangladesh cricket. Moreover, BCB's increasing focus on local coaches played a role in my decision."
The position of a selector is highly regarded, and many hesitate to leave it. However, Sarkar clarified his reasoning, stating, "I served as a national selector for a year and an age-level selector for eight years, making it a total of 8 years and 8 months. I truly enjoyed my time in this role, but I felt it was the right moment to rethink my future. I don't know whether this is a bold or a weak decision, but after three months of reflection, I decided it was the best step for me."
