HC approves appointment of new chairman for Destiny-2000"

The High Court on Tuesday approved the appointment of Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Prashant Bhushan as the new chairman of the board of directors of Destiny-2000.

The court also accepted the resignation of the previous chairman Fakhruddin Ahmed.

Barrister Mejbahur Rahman, representing Destiny's board of directors, stated that the order was passed by Justice Khizir Ahmed Choudhury, a single-judge bench of the High Court.

He said, "Following Fakhruddin Ahmed's resignation from the chairmanship of Destiny's board, the High Court, with the members' consent, appointed Barrister Prashant Bhushan Barua as the chairman."

Earlier in 2012, 16 shareholders of Destiny's board of directors petitioned the court to convene an AGM. Responding to their petition, the High Court restructured Destiny-2000 Limited's board of directors on September 1, 2022, appointing former High Court Justice Moinul Islam Chowdhury as chairman.

Simultaneously, the board was permitted to convene the company's annual general meeting. Following reconstitution, nine out of the 17 members from the previous composition were retained.
