HC asks for Rohingya voter list of 2 unions of Chakaria
The High Court (HC) has asked for the list of how many Rohingyas have been enlisted as voters in two unions of Chakaria upazila of Cox's Bazar.
An HC bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Kazi Zeenat Haque passed the order after hearing a writ petition on Monday (April 29).
Earlier on Wednesday last, the same HC bench asked for the Rohingya voter list of Cox's Bazar.
Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Mohammad Mojahidul Awal Nuri filed the writ petition on behalf of local resident Abdul Wahid. The lawyer took part on behalf of the petition during the hearing.
Advocate Nuri said the court has ordered to submit the list of Rohingya voters enlisted in the voter list of Koyarkhali and Khutakhali unions by May 6 next. The court has also ordered the removal of the names of Rohingyas from the voter list.
Apart from this, the HC issued a rule seeking to know why the inclusion of Rohingyas in the voter list will not be declared illegal.
The local government ministry, Election Commission, Election Commission secretary, Cox's Bazar deputy commissioner, district election officer, additional deputy commissioner (general) and Chakaria upazila election officer have been made respondents in the writ petition.
