HC asks Salam Murshedy to vacate Gulshan house by 3 months
The High Court has directed Khulna-4 MP and also Vice President of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BAFFE) Abdus Salam Murshedy to handover a Gulshan residence currently occupied by him to the Ministry of Housing and Public Works within three months.
An HC bench comprising Justice Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Kazi Ibadat Hossain passed the order on Tuesday, responding to a writ petition.
Earlier on October 30, 2022, Barrister Syed Syedul Haque Sumon, representing the Supreme Court, lodged the writ petition citing the occupation of a 'B' listed house within Gulshan-2, which is designated as abandoned property.
The petition sought judicial intervention to investigate the alleged encroachment and to facilitate necessary legal action against the occupant.
Following preliminary hearings, the High Court issued directives on November 1, 2022, demanding the submission of pertinent documentation regarding the property in question.
The HC, meanwhile, criticised the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for dillydallying the submission of its investigation report about the Gulshan house.
The directive also requires the Public Works Secretary to furnish a report to the High Court within 15 days of receiving the property.
The house in question, situated in the affluent neighborhood of Gulshan-2 in the capital city, Dhaka, has been subject to contention following allegations of unauthorized occupation by Salam Murshedy.
