The High Court on Tuesday ordered the suspension of battery-run rickshaws in the Dhaka metropolitan area within three days. The directive was issued by a High Court bench consisting of Justice Fatema Najib and Justice Mahmudur Razi after a preliminary hearing on a writ petition. The court also issued a ruling questioning why the authorities' failure to ban these rickshaws should not be declared illegal. Advocates Sanjid Siddiqui and Tahsina Mridu appeared in court on behalf of the petitioners.

ঢাকা মহানগর এলাকায় তিন দিনের মধ্যে ব্যাটারিচালিত রিকশা বন্ধের নির্দেশ দিয়েছেন হাইকোর্ট। এ সংক্রান্ত রিটের প্রাথমিক শুনানি নিয়ে মঙ্গলবার (১৯ নভেম্বর) বিচারপতি ফাতেমা নজীব ও বিচারপতি মাহমুদুর রাজীর সমন্বয়ে গঠিত হাইকোর্ট বেঞ্চ এ আদেশ দেন। একইসঙ্গে ব্যাটারিচালিত রিকশা বন্ধে বিবাদীদের নিষ্ক্রিয়তা কেন বেআইনি ঘোষণা করা হবে না, তা জানতে চেয়ে রুল জারি করেছেন আদালত। আদালতে রিটের পক্ষে শুনানি করেন সানজিদ সিদ্দিকী ও তাহসিনা মৃদু।
