HC stays case proceedings against Dr Yunus at Rangpur Court
The High Court has stayed the proceedings of the case filed against Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus and five others at the Rangpur Labor Court, alleging violations of labor laws.
The High Court bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md Atabullah Atabullah delivered the order on Tuesday (April 30).
The court also issued a rule regarding the validity of the case.
Barrister Abdullah Al Mamun appeared in court for Dr Yunus. Barrister Khawaja Tanveer Ahmed was with him. Deputy Attorney General Tushar Kanti Roy and Assistant Attorney General Anich ul Mawa represented the state.
In 2021, a case was filed against six people including Muhammad Yunus in Rangpur Labor Court. Golam Mostafa, retired senior farm manager of Grameen Krishi Foundation, filed the case.
Regarding the case, the lawyer of the plaintiff, Shamim Al Mamun, said, "The plaintiff of the case has filed a case against Dr. Yunus and six other defendants to recover Tk 9 lakh 75 thousand 125 compensation for retirement gratuity and earned leave."
