HC stays DMP order requiring prior approval for arrests in uprising cases
The High Court on Wednesday stayed a Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) directive that required law enforcement to obtain approval from higher authorities before arresting any accused named in FIRs related to the July anti-discrimination uprising.
A bench comprising Justice Fatema Najib and Justice Sikder Mahmudur Razi issued the three-month suspension order following a hearing on a writ petition challenging the legality of the directive.
The court also issued a rule asking the home secretary, the DMP commissioner, and other relevant authorities to explain why the directive should not be declared illegal.
The writ was filed on Sunday by Supreme Court lawyer Md Jasim Uddin. Prominent legal expert Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal participated in the hearing pro bono.
