Heavy rainfall causes waterlogging in Dhaka
Heavy rain has submerged the roads in different areas of the capital.
A three-hour nonstop rainfall left the city roads under knee-deep and waist-deep water. As a result, the suffering of people who go out for various work has increased.
Along with this, the traffic department of Dhaka Police said that the vehicular movement is being disrupted on various roads of the metropolitan .
In this regard, meteorologist Tariful Newaz Kabir of the Meteorological Department told the media, "A 130 mm of rain has been recorded in Dhaka from 6am to 12pm on Friday. This year, 223 mm of rainfall was recorded in 24 hours during Cyclone Remal. However, such heavy rainfall in a short period of time has not happened in recent times."
Meanwhile, the traffic department of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said that the heavy rains inundated various areas of the capital and caused many vehicles to break down on the roads and cause traffic jams.
For this reason, the residents of the capital have been requested to go out with time to go to various destinations.
The traffic department also informed that the areas where heavy traffic has been caused due to waterlogging are: Fakirapool, Nayapaltan, Baitul Mokarram, Shantinagar, Malibag Mor, Arambagh, Pragati Sarani, New Market, Dhanmondi Rapa Plaza, Bangshal, Mirpur Rokeya Sarani, Dayaganj Mor, Syedabad Bus Terminal, Nimtoli, Toynbee Circle Road, Dhanmondi 27, Elephant Road, Matsya Bhavan, Kawran Bazar, Vijay Sarani, Dhaka Gate VIP Road and Mirpur Mazar Road.
On the other hand, a press release signed by Public Relations Officer of Dhaka North City Corporation Maqbul Hossain said that water has already been drained from the main roads. It took some time to remove the water due to continuous heavy rain for a short period of time. Quick response teams are being dispatched to clear the drains in the areas where flooding is still occurring and ensuring water flow.
