High Court orders to close schools, madrasas till Thursday
The High Court (HC) has ordered the closure of classes in primary, secondary schools and madrasas till Thursday (May 2) next considering the ongoing severe heatwave.
The HC bench of Justice KM Kamrul Quader and Justice Khizir Hayat passed the order on Monday (April 29).
However, the court said that this order will not be applicable for schools where AC is available, examinations are ongoing, O level, A level examinations and colleges and universities.
In the court, lawyer Monir Uddin brought the attention of the court to the reports published in various newspapers about the death of 18 people in the ongoing heat wave.
Deputy Attorney General Sheikh Md Saifuzzaman, Assistant Attorney General Rehena Sultana, Md Samiul Sarkar and Ashiq Rubayet represented the state during the hearing.
Educational institutions opened on Sunday (April 28) amid a heat alert issued by the Meteorological Department due to the intense heat wave. On the first day, students fell ill in various educational institutions due to extreme heat. After that, secondary schools were declared closed, leaving primary schools open.
