High Court orders to raid restaurants as per law
The High Court (HC) has ordered the authorities concerned to carry out raids at hotels and restaurants in the capital as per the law.
At the same time, the HC issued a seeking to know why harassment in the name of raids would not be declared illegal.
A division bench of the HC passed the order on Tuesday after hearing a writ filed in this regard.
Earlier on Monday, a writ petition was filed with the HC seeking stoppage to the harassment of owners and employees of the capital’s hotels and restaurants in the name of drives. In the writ, owners of hotels and restaurants sought more time to fulfill all the conditions.
On February 29, 46 people lost their lives in a terrible fire at the Green Cozy Cottage building on Bailey Road in the capital. Since then, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has been conducting raids at various restaurants in the capital. In these raids, 872 people were arrested and 20 cases were filed. In addition, punitive action was taken in 887 cases.
