Hold elections quickly to end instability: Mirza Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has urged the interim government to hold elections swiftly to end the ongoing instability in the country. He stated, "The entire nation is in a state of unrest. Conduct elections quickly to restore stability. I also urge a certain political party not to make statements that could further destabilize the country."
He made these remarks as the chief guest at a public rally on Thursday (February 20) at Laksam Stadium in Cumilla. The rally was organized to promote the implementation of BNP’s 31-point reform agenda.
Mirza Fakhrul said that some people are using the idea of reforms as a pretext to delay elections. "How many ordinary people understand reform? People want two meals a day, a place to live, healthcare, education, and peace. These basic rights are what reform truly means to them."
He urged, "Please do not push the country into further instability or chaos. Recently, we have seen on Facebook and YouTube that some individuals claim to have led all the struggles while sitting abroad, as if we did nothing. It is easy to write and speak from overseas, but attempts are being made to destabilize the country again. We want this interim government to succeed because it was formed through the sacrifices of students and the masses."
Mirza Fakhrul further stated, "Bangladesh is going through a critical period. A fascist regime has destroyed everything. However, through the unity of students and the people, we have removed fascism. Now, a new government has been established. If we do not support this government, it will not be able to function effectively. That is why we are offering our support."
The rally, organized by Laksam Upazila, Municipality, and Monohorgonj Upazila BNP, was presided over by BNP's Industry Affairs Secretary Md. Abul Kalam. At the beginning of the rally, 31 pigeons were released to symbolize BNP’s 31-point reform agenda. Additionally, photographs of missing BNP leaders and activists from Laksam and Monohorgonj were displayed beside the stage.
Among the speakers at the event were BNP Vice Chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu, Chairperson's Advisor Monirul Haque Chowdhury, Expatriate Affairs Secretary Sheikh Farid Ahmed Manik, Relief and Rehabilitation Secretary Haji Aminur Rashid Yasin, Employment Affairs Secretary Zakaria Taher Suman, Joint Organizing Secretary (Cumilla Division) Md. Mostak Mia, Former Organizing Secretary (Cumilla Division) and former MP Colonel (Retd.) Anwarul Azim, Cumilla Metropolitan BNP Convener Utbatul Bari Abu, Member Secretary Yusuf Molla Tipu, and Cumilla South District BNP Member Secretary Asikur Rahman Wasim, among others.
