The High Court (HC) on Wednesday (April 24) has wanted to know how many Rohingyas are enlisted in Cox's Bazar.

At the same time, the HC issued a ruling seeking to know why voting of Rohingyas should not be declared illegal.

An HC bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Kazi Zeenat Haque passed the order, instructing the relevant authorities to investigate the matter and submit a report by June 6.

Besides, the court also ordered to exclude the name of 38 Rohingyas from Eidgaon union of Cox's Bazar from the voter list.

Advocate Mohammad Siddique Ullah Mia moved on behalf of trhe writ petitioner during the hearing while Deputy Attorney General Amit Das Gupta appeared for the state.

Earlier on Tuesday, Mohammad Hamid, a permanent resident of that union, challenged the validity of the publication of the election schedule of Eidgaon union parishad of Cox's Bazar's Eidgaon upazila without excluding the names of Rohingyas from the voter list.

The writ sought instructions to check the voter list of all union parishads of Cox's Bazar, exclude Rohingyas from the voter list, cancel all documents related to granting them citizenship and take appropriate action against those involved in granting citizenship to Rohingyas.
