Hridoy suspended for one match, Ebadot fined 40,000 Taka
On Saturday (April 12) in Mirpur, the match between the two arch-rivals, Abahani and Mohammadan, was not only heated but also sparked controversy. During the match, Mohammadan players got into an argument with the umpires. Captain Towhid Hridoy was suspended for one match after he expressed dissatisfaction with the umpire’s decision and violated Level 2 rules. He also received 4 demerit points. Meanwhile, Mohammadan’s pacer Ebadot Hossain was fined 40,000 Taka for the same offense and received 2 demerit points. The fines were imposed by match referee Niamur Rashid Rahul after an official hearing.
During Mohammadan's bowling, players got into arguments with the umpires twice. Once, Hridoy had a heated exchange with umpire Sharafudoula Ibne Shaheed Soikat, and another time, they argued with umpire Tanveer Ahmed. After the punishment, Hridoy told the media, "I can’t explain everything that happened, but in the heat of the moment, many things happen. But what I feel is that they might make mistakes too. Everyone makes mistakes, we will too! But I think mistakes should be admitted. If I make a mistake, I’ll admit it. But if you don’t admit your mistake and say it wasn’t a mistake, that’s not right. The umpire is an international umpire, and we respect him, and we are international cricketers too. Most of the players here have played international cricket. In such a match, one or two decisions can make a big difference. If things go in the other direction again, I will speak up, Insha'Allah."
