India returns 24 Bangladeshi victims of trafficking
After rescuing 24 Bangladeshi boys and girls who were trafficked in India, the Indian police sent them back to Bangladesh through the Benapole border on travel permits.
They were handed over to Benapole Check post via Petrapol land port in India on Wednesday (November 20) evening.
The returning teenagers are residents of various districts including Satkhira, Patuakhali, and Cox's Bazar. Some took them with promises of good jobs, some work at home, but all of them were cheated and forced into risky works.
At the end of the police operation, 3 NGO organizations namely Rights Jashore, Justice and Care and Bangladesh Mahila Ainjibi Samiti accepted them for legal assistance.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Benapole Port thana Russell Mia said that after the legal process, three NGO organizations have accepted the returning Bangladeshis from the police station to provide legal assistance and employment facilities.
