Inauguration of 'Japanese Language Center' at Dr. Momtaz Begum University of Science and Technology
The “Japanese Language Center” was recently inaugurated at Dr. Momtaz Begum University of Science and Technology, located in Bhairab of Kishoreganj district. This initiative was taken by Premier Bank Foundation.
The chief guest at the ceremony was Maho Nakayama, Director of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation of Japan. The event was chaired by Mohammad Imran Iqbal, Chairman of Premier Bank and a member of the Board of Trustees of Dr. Momtaz Begum University of Science and Technology.
Special guests included Jamal G. Ahmed, Vice Chairman of Premier Bank and Board of Trustees member of the university; Dr. Emadul Islam, Senior Research Fellow at Japan’s Sasakawa Peace Foundation Ocean Policy Research Institute and university advisor; Professor Dr. Mohammad Azizul Haque, Acting Vice Chancellor of the university; Professor Dr. Md. Ashraful Alam, Vice Chancellor of Sylhet International University; Md. Tarek Uddin, Head of Brand Marketing and Communication at Premier Bank; along with local dignitaries, teachers, students, officials, and journalists.
Maho Nakayama warmly welcomed the timely initiative of setting up a university-based Japanese Language Center and highlighted its promising positive aspects. She also wished for the overall success of this effort.
Mohammad Imran Iqbal, Board of Trustees member, said, “Establishing this language center is not only important for education but also marks a bright milestone in strengthening the friendly relationship between Bangladesh and Japan. Inspired by the educational and humanitarian philosophy of the university’s founder and Board Chairman, freedom fighter Dr. H. B. M. Iqbal, we support talented and underprivileged students.”
Jamal G. Ahmed recalled the long-standing friendly ties between Bangladesh and Japan. He said, “I believe the students here will benefit greatly from the Japanese Language Center in the long run.”
Dr. Emadul Islam said, “Japan is a global leader in education, research, and technology. The effort to establish a Japanese Language Center at this university is very timely and will serve as a model for other universities in the country.”
Professor Dr. Mohammad Azizul Haque, Acting Vice Chancellor, welcomed the guests and said, “The honorable Chairman of the Board of Trustees, freedom fighter Dr. H. B. M. Iqbal, has taken a noble initiative to spread higher education in his birthplace, Banshgharia, which is an example of patriotism. Although this university started its academic activities in July 2024 and is young, it is among the first in the country to implement outcome-based curriculum from the beginning. I am hopeful that this center will play an important role in improving students’ abilities and preparing them to meet global standards.”
At the beginning of the program, the respected Dean of the Engineering Faculty, Mr. Ashek Al Aziz, gave a brief introduction about the university and presented an overview of the Japanese Language Center.
