Incessant rain causes flooding in 4 upazilas of Sylhet
Flash floods have occurred in Goainghat, Jaintapur, Companiganj and Kanighat upazilas of Sylhet due to incessant rain in the last a few days.
Most of the lower areas of those upazilas have been flooded as a result many roads are submerged causing traffic disruption.
Shelter centers have already been opened by the administration and affected people have started moving to various shelters.
The extent of flooding has increased in Rustampur Union, Lengura, Daubari, Nandirgaon, East and West Alirgaon, West Jaflong, Madhya Jaflong of Goainghat Upazila.
A total of 56 shelter centers are open in 13 unions of this upazila. Miking are being done so that people of flood prone areas are can take move to those centres.
Apart from this, communications with the upazila headquarters has been cut off due to the subsidence of the Salutikar-Goainghat road.
Sylhet Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mobarak Hossain said shelter centers have already been opened in Goainghat, Jaintapur, Companiganj and Kanighat upazilas. As of the latest news, people have started moving to some of these centres in Goainghat.
He also said that the district administration has made full preparations to deal with the sudden situation.
