India acknowledged Hasina's extradition letter: Rafiqul Alam

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Rafiqul Alam said that India has accepted the letter sent to send Sheikh Hasina back to the country, who was involved in genocide during the movement.

He made this statement at a press briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday (January 9) afternoon.

Rafiqul Alam said, ‘India has admitted sending a letter to return Sheikh Hasina. Bangladesh will await India’s response.’

Regarding the Hindustan Times news on extending Sheikh Hasina’s visa, he said, ‘The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs all countries when someone’s passport is cancelled. There is no issue of visa if the passport is cancelled.’

Regarding the injured in the July protests, the spokesperson said, ‘The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working on quickly obtaining visas for their treatment abroad. So far, 11 people have been sent abroad for treatment. Two have also returned home after treatment.’

On the Rohingya issue, Rafiqul Alam said, ‘Recently, 36 Rohingyas have been infiltrating Bangladesh. The security forces are on high alert at the border. But in some cases, we also have to look at the humanitarian aspect.’

Regarding Bangladeshis in Mozambique, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, ‘The High Commission in Pretoria has been instructed to assist Bangladeshis who wish to return home due to the unstable environment in Mozambique.’
