India's strategically important Siliguri corridor or 'Chicken's Neck' separates Bangladesh and China. While the corridor has mainland India on one side, there are seven states on the other side, which do not have any seaports. As a result, India has long been concerned about the trade and security of this region.

Due to the current political situation, the Indian central government and the West Bengal state government are paying special attention to the issue of the importance of this 'Chicken's Neck' corridor in terms of national security. As part of this, the country's army has recently installed modern air defense system like the Russian-made S-400 to secure the Siliguri corridor.

A report published by India.com claims that the Indian Army is giving special importance to this sector in terms of security.

Just as Bangladesh has a border with Chicken's Neck, China also has a part of it. This area is very sensitive geographically and strategically. Therefore, the Modi government does not want to have any lapse in terms of security.

In addition to the installation of the S-400 air defense system, the Brahmos cruise missile has been deployed. It is capable of hitting land and sea targets at a distance of 500 km quickly and accurately.

The Indian government decided to allocate about Rs 1000 crore for the Chicken's Neck Corridor in 2022 after the deterioration of relations with China.

India's Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan recently visited North Bengal to review the operational preparedness of the military. He stressed India's commitment to protecting territorial integrity. He also held high-level discussions with military officials on security strategies.
