India, Pakistan agree to reduce troops at border
In a significant step toward de-escalating tensions along the Line of Control (LoC), the Directors-General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan agreed on Monday to consider immediate measures for reducing troop presence at the border and in forward areas.
The second round of talks between the two DGMOs was conducted over the hotline on Monday evening. According to a statement from the Indian Army, the discussions centered around reaffirming the commitment of both sides to avoid hostile actions, including refraining from firing any shots or initiating aggressive moves.
“It was also agreed that both sides would consider immediate steps to reduce troop numbers along the borders and in forward positions,” the statement added. This understanding followed a prior agreement made during talks between the DGMOs on Saturday.
While violations of the agreement were reported by the Pakistani military on Saturday night, there were no such incidents on Sunday night, with the situation largely remaining peaceful across Jammu & Kashmir and other border areas. The Indian Army confirmed on Monday morning that no incidents occurred, marking the first calm night in recent days.
