Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser to the Interim Government, has expressed confidence that inflation will drop below 8% by June.

He expressed this in a speech to the nation on the evening of Tuesday (March 25).

Dr. Muhammad Yunus said, "In the past 16 years, the massive looting carried out by Sheikh Hasina harmed the people. In the face of a student-public uprising, they fled, leaving behind a shattered economy. After taking responsibility, the interim government has taken several initiatives to revive the economy."

He also said, "Today (March 25) is a dark day in the history of human civilization. On this night in 1971, the Pakistani occupying forces mercilessly shot innocent, unarmed, sleeping Bengalis, killing thousands. From March 25, the people of this country started armed resistance. Through nine months of war, Bangladesh gained independence. On the eve of our Independence Day, I pay my deepest respects to the martyrs of the Great Liberation War, whose sacrifices gave us an independent, sovereign Bangladesh."

The chief adviser said, "In the nine months of bloody war, the sacrifice of millions of martyrs and two lakh tortured women led to the birth of an independent Bangladesh on the world map. I salute the heroes of our Liberation War."

"On the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all of you. I also wish you an advance happy Eid-ul-Fitr. Eid Mubarak. I hope this Eid will be joyfully memorable," he added.

He said, "Since the current government took office, strict measures have been taken to control commodity prices. The major challenge during Ramadan and Eid was to control the prices of goods and ensure a steady electricity supply. We have made every effort to prevent price hikes and ensure uninterrupted electricity during this Ramadan."

The Chief Adviser stated, "We have taken all necessary measures to prevent any disruption in the supply chain during Ramadan. Reports from all over the country have confirmed that the prices of goods have decreased compared to previous years, and the people have found relief. Our efforts to control prices will continue."

"Discipline has returned to the banking sector, and gradually, other economic indicators are starting to show positive trends. The biggest challenge for this government is inflation. In February, inflation dropped below 9.32%, the lowest in 22 months. I hope it will fall below 8% by June," he added.
