Israel kills Gaza's new Prime Minister

Hamas leader Ismail Barhoum has been killed in an Israeli attack on Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, located in southern Gaza. At least one other person has also been reported dead in the attack, according to sources confirmed by Al Jazeera.

Ismail Barhoum was a member of Hamas's political bureau in Gaza and the new Prime Minister of the Hamas government. He had replaced former Prime Minister Issam al-Da’alis, who was assassinated a few days ago. Barhoum was also responsible for the regional distribution of funds within Hamas.

A Hamas source confirmed that Ismail Barhoum was killed in the attack. The source stated that on Sunday (March 23), Israeli warplanes targeted the operation theater of Nasser Hospital with a bomb strike, where Barhoum was receiving treatment. He had been critically injured in an Israeli attack on his home in Khan Younis early Tuesday morning.

A few hours before this incident, Israeli forces bombed a tent in Al-Mawasi, Gaza, killing top Hamas official Salah Al-Bardawil. With Barhoum's death, this marks the fourth member of Hamas's political bureau to be killed since last Tuesday.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) claimed that the attack targeted Hamas members hiding inside Nasser Hospital. They alleged that Barhoum was operating on behalf of Hamas from within the hospital. The IDF further stated that the strike was carried out using precise weapons based on confirmed intelligence to minimize damage to the hospital.
