Ivy sent to jail in murder case
Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy, former mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation and senior vice-president of the district Awami League, has been sent to jail in connection with the murder of Minarul in Siddhirganj.
Narayanganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Mainuddin Kader issued the order following a hearing on Thursday (9 May).
Narayanganj court police inspector Md Kaiyum Khan said that Ivy was brought to court in connection with the Minarul murder case, and the judge ordered that she be sent to jail. The next hearing is scheduled for 26 May.
Earlier, police arrested Ivy early Friday from her residence 'Chunka Kutir' in Deobhog area of the city, following overnight tension.
Around 11.00pm on Thursday, a police team entered Ivy's house in Deobhog. As news of her arrest spread, local residents and her supporters took to the streets, leading to tension in the area.
Supporters and Awami League activists blocked four roads leading to Ivy's house using bamboo, pushcarts, and vans. Announcements were made from nearby mosques, calling on people to head toward Ivy’s house.
