Jamaat will be dealt with as militant group after ban: PM
Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina expressed concern that Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir might "go underground and engage in destructive activities" following their ban, and she stated that they will need to be treated as a "militant group."
The premier made the remarks as the chief guest at a voluntary blood donation programme and discussion and doa mahfil at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh in the capital's Farmgate area on Thursday (August 1).
She said, “As militants, they will attempt to go underground and cause destruction. Therefore, we must address them as a militant group and work together to protect the people.”
The Prime Minister said, “There will be no place for militants on Bangladeshi soil. We all need to stay vigilant. I urge the residents of our country to be alert and offer their support.”
In 1972, Jamaat, an anti-independence party, was banned for "misusing religion for political purposes." The party is now facing a ban again due to security concerns.
The Prime Minister said, "I don’t care. Allah has given life, and He will also take it away. I will do everything necessary for the welfare of the people."
The Awami League has launched its programmes for a month of mourning to commemorate the killing of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family.
“By initiating the blood donation program, we have begun the month of mourning on August 1,” Awami League President said. “Leaders of all affiliates should not only mourn but also actively support and stand by the people, which reflects the ideals and goals of the Father of the Nation.”
