Japan to increase cooperation to deal with earthquake risk
State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Mohibur Rahman said that Japan has assured Bangladesh of cooperation in dealing with the risk of earthquakes.
He said this after a meeting with Japanese Ambassador Iwama Kiminori at his Secretariat office in the capital on Tuesday (March 5).
Referring to Japan as one of the most important development partners of Bangladesh, Rahman urged the Japanese ambassador to provide more technological assistance related to disaster preparedness as well as for cooperation in research development.
The ambassador of Japan praised the success of Bangladesh in dealing with natural disasters and said that Bangladesh has set another example in the world in dealing with cyclones and floods.
The ambassador assured that joint training of those involved in disaster management in Bangladesh and their Japanese counterparts will be arranged to deal with the earthquake disaster.
“Besides assisting in the implementation of the mega projects, Japan is helping Bangladesh in disaster management and the two countries are currently working to maintain strategic mutual cooperative relations,” Iwama Kiminori said.
He also said that Japan will help Bangladesh in improving the life standard of the local people living adjacent to the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox's Bazar.
Observing that sheltering the Rohingyas has put pressure on the life, livelihood and neighbourhood of the local people of Cox's Bazar, the Japanese ambassador assured of financial and technical support to resolve this problem.
He also assured of continuing the assistance to the Rohingyas in Bhasan Char too.
Japan's ambassador to Bangladesh assured that Japan will continue to help the Rohingyas in Bhasanchar too.
