Only two days after Bangladesh ventured into women’s first-class cricket, Nigar Sultana Joty reached a historic milestone on Monday, becoming the first Bangladeshi woman to score a century in this format.

Playing for Central Zone against Northern Zone in the BCL at Rajshahi’s Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium, Nigar Sultana Joty delivered a stellar performance, remaining unbeaten with an impressive 153 runs in the first innings. Starting the day on 85 not out, she reached her century in the morning session with a single off Jannatul Ferdous, taking 215 balls to achieve the milestone. Joty finished her innings at 153 not out, facing 253 deliveries and hitting 20 boundaries along with 2 sixes.

Despite several players coming close to scoring a century in the first two days of the inaugural Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL), Joty emerged as the first centurion.

On the opening day, Northern Zone’s Farzana Haque fell short with 86 runs, while Sharmin Akhter was dismissed for 88 in the South Zone vs. East Zone match at Rajshahi’s Bangla Track Cricket Academy Ground. The next day, Ayesha Rahman narrowly missed out, getting out for 94.
