Journos get rare opportunity to photograph Appellate Division trial
Journalists are getting a rare opportunity to photograph the proceedings of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court for a day.
Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan is providing the opportunity to journalists to take pictures, record videos and even broadcast live in the courtroom of the Appellate Division on June 10. On that day, the trial will start again in the modernized and refurbished courtroom of the Appellate Division.
A special bench comprising judges from both divisions of the Supreme Court will also participate in the special session of the day, said the Supreme Court (SC) sources.
Registrar of the Appellate Division Mohammad Saifur Rahman told reporters on Wednesday (June 5) that a special session has been organized in the courtroom of the Chief Justice marking the resumption of judicial proceedings at 4:00pm on Monday (June 10). During the session, journalists will be allowed to enter the Chief Justice's chamber with cameras.
Journalists will be allowed to enter with cameras only for that day, he said.
According to SC sources, it is a punishable offense to photograph or record videos of all courtrooms, including the Supreme Court's Appellate and High Court divisions.
The country's media is going to get this opportunity for the first time.
