JU proctor resigns in face of agitation

Jahangirnagar University (JU) Proctor ASM Firoz-ul-Hasan finally resigned in An office order signed by JU Registrar Abu Hassan revealed the information on Monday (March 18).

At the same time, Mohammad Alamgir Kabir, professor of Statistics and Data Science Department and provost of Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Hall, has been temporarily assigned as then the new proctor of the university.

The office order said, "Following a written request of Firoz-ul-Hasan, also an associate professor of Government and Politics Department, he has been relieved from the post of proctor by accepting his resignation. Professor Mohammad Alamgir Kabir has been temporarily appointed as the proctor of the university from today till further notice."

Mentionable, a wife was raped in the forest adjacent to the Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall after locking her husband in a room of the hall on the night of February 3. Since then, students and teachers of the university, under the banner of ‘Nipironbirodhi Mancha’ (anti-oppression platform), launched a movement to ensure the maximum punishment for those involved in the crime.

They have been demanding the resignation of proctor ASM Feroz-ul-Hasan and Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall provost Professor Sabbir Alam for allegedly assisting the perpetrators of the crime. For the sake of fair investigation, the teachers and students demanded their release from administrative posts.
