Karwan Bazar ramp of elevated expressway inaugurated
The Dhaka Elevated Expressway’s Karwan Bazar ramp (connecting road), adjacent to Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (FDC), has been opened for traffic.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader inaugurated the ramp at 10:30am today (March 20).
At the event, the minister said, “Earlier on September 3 last year, the elevated expressway was opened from the airport to Farmgate. Karwan Bazar ramp is being opened today. This is an Eid gift from the Prime Minister to the countrymen.”
Quader said this project will not be completed within this year. All portions of the expressway, hopefully, will be opened for traffic at the beginning of next year. The Hatirjheel ramp will be opened next.
Commenting on the increasing traffic congestion in Dhaka during the ongoing Ramadan, he said, “People become busy during Ramadan due to the upcoming Eid. Increasing number of city dwellers go to the shopping malls. That is why traffic jams increase at this time of the year. But there is no traffic jam from Uttara to Motijheel. People are travelling this long way in less time as a result of the inauguration of metro rail and elevated expressway.”
