KNF member killed in shootout with security forces in Bandarban
A member of the Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) was killed in a shootout between KNF and army personnhel in Munlai Para area at Ruma upazila in Bandarban today (April 22).
However, identity of the deceased could not be known.
According to an ISPR press release, the armed member of KNF was killed in an army operation in the area. The army personnel recovered arms, ammunition and other equipment during the drive.
According to sources from law enforcement forces and local people, after KNF’s recent bank robbery and looting of 14 weapons of law enforcement forces in Ruma and Thanchi upaziloas of Bandarban, joint forces consisting of army, RAB, and police are carrying out a massive operation to stop the anti-state activities of the KNF in the hills.
Sources said a state of panic is prevailing among the people of Ruma, Thanchi and Rowangchari upazilas in the district due to the joint forces' raid and KNF's armed attack. The KNF is using social media and locals to spread rumors of various attacks. The security system has been strengthened in government buildings and law enforcement camps.
On condition of anonymity, a number of public representatives said in the last few days, there have been several shootouts between the security forces and the KNF. Gunshots were heard in Sanaikru Para, Happyhill Para, Bastalang Para, Polipansa areas bordering Ruma Sadar union and Paindu union.
