Kolkata Police has not confirmed MP Arnar’s death: IGP
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun has said that police has received the news through media reports, about the recovery of the body of Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim Anar who went missing in India, Indian or Kolkata police have not confirmed anything yet.
“We are not officially sure whether he is alive or dead. We are working jointly,” he said while talking to reporters after observing the overall law and security management on the occasion of Buddha Purnima, the main religious festival of the country’s Buddhist community at the International Buddhist Bihar in the capital's Merul Badda area on Wednesday (May 22).
Responding to a question, the IGP said, “We are working closely with Kolkata Police and Indian police. The news that came up was not officially confirmed by the Indian police authorities through our ambassador. We know they are searching. They have constant contact with us. We are cooperating with them."
Responding to a question as to whether he was alive, he said, "We have not yet been sure. When I can confirm specific information, I'll inform you. So far, we got the news through media. They didn't confirm."
