Labour law violation case: Dr Yunus’ bail extended until May 23
A Dhaka tribunal extended the bail of Nobel Laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus and three directors of Grameen Telecom until May 23 in a labour law violation case.
The Labor Appeal Tribunal extended the bail period of the three top officials of Grameen Telecom along with Dr Yunus around 11:30 am on Tuesday (April 16).
The other three accused in the case are – Grameen Telecom's Director (former managing director) Md Ashraful Hassan, and members of the Board of Directors Nurjahan Begum and Md Shahjahan.
Earlier on the day, Muhammad Yunus and other accused appeared before the Labour Appellate Tribunal to seek permanent bail in the labour law violation case.
Barrister Abdullah Al Mamun, the lawyer of Dr Yunus, said, "Dr Muhammad Yunus, along with his three colleagues, appeared before the tribunal and filed a petition, seeking extension of temporary bail till disposal of the appeal in the case. Then, the tribunal extended the bail till May 23."
Earlier on March 3, 2024, the Labor Appeal Tribunal extended bail to Prof Yunus and his three colleagues until April 16.
On January 1, Dhaka's Labour Court-3 sentenced Prof Yunus and three others to six months in prison and fined Tk30,000 for violating the Labour law.
