Lalon song on Facebook, youth detained for allegedly offending religious sentiments

A youth has been arrested and sent to jail for allegedly disrespecting Islam by posting two lines of a Lalon song on his Facebook story.

The detainee is identified as Sanjay Rakshit (40), hailing from Bhedarganj upazila in Shariatpur. Sanjay works as a goldsmith.

Bhedarganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mintu Mondal confirmed confirmed Sanjay's detainment on Sunday (April 28).

The screenshot of Sanjay's Facebook story reveals the following lines: "Sunnate Khatna Dile Jodi Hoy Musolman, Tahole Nari Jatir Ki Hoy Bidhan." It is noted that these lines are taken from Lalon's song "Sab Loke Koy Lalan Ki Jaat Ei Sansare."

Bhedarganj police station OC said, "A young man named Sanjay Rakshit has been detained for posting two lines in a Facebook story. Some locals have alleged that these lines have offended the sentiments of Muslims. They have verbally lodged a complaint regarding this issue. Therefore, Sanjay was detained to prevent social unrest and has been sent to Shariatpur district jail."
