Land depression weakens over Sylhet, local cautionary signal 3 for ports
The Meteorological Department has stated that Cyclone Remal, which made landfall along the Bangladesh coast on Sunday (May 26), has transitioned into a low-pressure and is currently located in Sylhet and nearby regions. The cyclone is undergoing a weakening phase and is forecasted to gradually move northeastward, diminishing in strength along the way.
In a bulletin, the BMD has issued a warning regarding ongoing steep pressure gradients over the north Bay, potentially leading to prolonged squally conditions impacting maritime ports, the north Bay, and nearby coastal regions.
As a precautionary measure, local cautionary signal number three has been issued for the maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra, it said.
Fishing boats and trawlers operating in the north Bay have been advised to stay close to the coast and exercise caution until further notice, the bulletin added.
Meanwhile, the 24-hour forecast starting from 9:00 am on Tuesday indicates that many areas in Dhaka, Mymensingh, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions, as well as some areas in Barishal and Rangpur divisions, and a few areas in Khulna and Rajshahi divisions, may experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers with gusty winds temporarily.
However, the bulletin also indicated the potential for heavy rainfall in certain areas of Mymensingh, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions.
According to the Met Office, daytime temperatures are expected to rise by 1-3 degrees Celsius nationwide, while nighttime temperatures may experience a slight decrease.
