Lewis 94 runs leads West Indies to home
Lewis stars with 94 runs off just 69 balls, showcasing his power-hitting skills with 8 sixes and 5 fours, to an impressive 8-wicket victory against England in the first match of the three-match ODI series at the Viv Richards Stadium in Antigua.
After losing the toss and batting first, England struggled to build a substantial innings, finishing at 209 runs. None of their batters managed to score a half-century, with captain Livingstone top-scoring at 48 runs and Jacob Bethel contributing 27.
West Indies' Gudakesh Motie was the standout bowler, claiming 4 wickets for 46 runs, while Matthew Ford, Jayden Sills, and Aljari Joseph each took two wickets. Motie’s exceptional performance earned him the Player of the Match award.
The match faced interruptions due to rain, but the Caribbean team reached the revised target of 157 runs in just 35 overs, with 55 balls in hand.
Despite a cautious start, with only 9 runs on the board after three overs, Lewis ignited the innings by hitting a six off John Turner in the fourth over. He completed his fifty off 46 balls and went on to score 44 runs off the next 23 deliveries.
Brandon King provided valuable support with a score of 30, while Karti and Shai Hope chipped in with 19 and 6 not out, respectively, sealing the victory for West Indies.
The second ODI of the series is set to take place tomorrow at the same venue.
