LPG-laden ship catches fire at Kutubdia anchorage, 31 rescued
A fire incident took place in a LPG-laden lighter ship anchored at Chattogram Port’s Kutubdia Anchorage Area early Sunday.
The incident occurred at Kaiyarbil point in Cox’s Bazar’s Kutubdia.
A total of 31 crew of the ship was rescued alive by Coast Guard and navy teams as of early Sunday.
No casualty has been reported from the incident, confirmed Officer of Coast Guard’s East Zone Lt Shakib Mehbub.
Upon receiving the information, Coast Guard and navy members rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control. The crew of the ship jumped into the sea at first, from where they were rescued later, Shakib said.
When asked about the incident, Media Officer of Coast Guard Lt Commander Khondker Munif Taukir said, “The flames engulfed the ship suddenly late into the night. Upon receiving the information, a ship, a tug boat and four speed boats of Coast Guard started to bring the fire under control.”
